Wildlife Conservation Efforts

Wildlife Conservation Efforts On December 20, 2013, the United Nations General Assembly declared March 3, the date of the signing of the 1973 Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora, as United Nations Wildlife Day (WWD). and knowledge of the world’s wildlife. This WWD also coincides with the 50th anniversary of CITES.

Today, on World Biodiversity Day, we reflect on the world’s commitment to protecting biodiversity. It is also closely related to Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 1, 6, 12, 13 and 15, with their various commitments to fight poverty, sustainably use resources and save life on earth.

How Wildlife Conservation In Northern Kenya Survived The Pandemic

Cooperation in wildlife conservation is important. The world must work together to save our precious ecosystems and the species that live in them. Working together with Sustainable Agriculture Tanzania (SAT) to protect Tanzania’s most important ecosystems – Mount Uluguru.

The Uluguru Mountains are part of the Eastern Highlands, stretching across eastern Tanzania and Kenya. The Uluguru Mountains contain at least 16 species and 135 plant species, with hundreds more shared with the forests of eastern Tanzania and Kenya. This level of endemism is rare in tropical Africa, and the Uluguru Mountains are one of only 10 tropical forest reserves on the continent.

With our headquarters in Morogoro and at the foot of the Uluguru Mountains, we have seen the need to tackle climate change and ignore the destructive agricultural practices that are accelerating deforestation in the region Back, there are as many amphibian species as the entire Democratic Republic of Congo! Last week, six new species of chameleon were described.

HeroTREEs initial plan was to plant trees, and recently expanded to syntropic farming. Syntropic agriculture is an exciting new farming method that reduces deforestation, increases farmers’ incomes and teaches sustainable farming methods that will help farmers do more with less land.

Smallholder farmers in mountain communities are taught to restore their land by planting trees alongside their crops and using horticultural techniques that produce organic fertilizers. These approaches lead to higher yields, increased productivity, and food security, and in particular teach farmers to build resilience to climate change and share experiences with the wider community, so the hero project is scaled up.

Many animals depend on the Uluguru Mountains for survival, and the partnership with SAT is to restore and protect their habitat so that the ecosystem can continue to thrive. The HeroTREEs project not only plants trees, but also ensures a change in local agricultural practices, which cause significant damage to the environment. This year’s theme, ‘Partnerships for Wildlife’, shows that we need to work across governments, civil society and the private sector.
