The EziDog Drive Harness is our top choice for dog comfort and safety. It was tested by the experts of Automotive Safety Engineering in Australia (ASEA). This group is responsible for the official certification of child safety seats in the United States, Europe and Australia. Three different sizes are available for dogs with a chest circumference of 11.0 to 42.0 inches.

The straps on the EZIDog harness can be difficult to tighten and loosen. During our test, it took us a little time and effort to adjust properly. However, there are markings on the harness to help you get the perfect position based on your dog’s specific measurements.
Our test dog, Louise, found the harness comfortable. She was able to lie down or sit up and seemed content to wear the harness with no problems breathing or relaxing. The wide chest plate fit her well. The straps made it easy enough to thread the seat belt through the harness for a secure fit.
This belt has high-quality buckles and thick, well-stitched straps. The chest panel is a little stiff, but that doesn’t seem to bother Louise. Overall, EZIDog is our top pick due to its quality construction.
Several Amazon reviewers have had accidents while using this seat belt in their car and all reported that their dogs got out unscathed. Together with ASEA testing, these reports are a strong indication that this seat belt works.

Most people find that this belt fits well when properly adjusted. However, EziDog does not accept all animals. Several owners said their pets were uncomfortable. In one case, a small breed dog managed to slip out of the EziDog harness.
Sleepipod makes a number of products for pets, from travel carriers to seat belts. The Clickit Sport harness is designed for safety and comfort and is available in four sizes (to accommodate dogs with a chest diameter of 16.5 to 40.0 inches and up to 90.0 pounds).
The Sleepipod Clickit Sport has been independently tested by the Center for Pet Safety (CPS). It is one of the few dog harnesses endorsed by this group. In addition to being a safety harness for dogs, the Clickit Sport also doubles as a walking harness using a D-ring leash attachment. Comes with clip guard and S clip.
It was difficult for us to adapt Clickit Sport. Tightening and loosening seat belts is a difficult process. However, these adjustments only need to be made once and then tightened only occasionally. Fastening the belt after adjustment is not difficult.

Louise seemed comfortable during her test drive. She could sit up straight and look out the window. While the harness held her close to the seat, it did not prevent her from adjusting to a sitting or lying position.
The materials of the Sleepipod harness are soft and the chest protector does not fit too tightly. The included seat belt buckle protection is a nice touch for added dog comfort.
Almost all reviewers agree that this is a safe and secure harness. However, we have not been able to find any reviews of users who have had an accident while using this belt.
Those who like harnesses find it a great fit and report that their dogs are comfortable. Many appreciate that it also serves as a dog leash.
Dog Car Seat With Safety Harness Seat Belt
Some say that the Clickit Sport does not fit their dog well, especially around the neck. Our test dog has a particularly wide chest and it fits her perfectly. Large dogs (over 90.0 lbs.) seem to have the most trouble with this harness. This harness also does not fit many miniature breeds (like chihuahuas).
The Ruffwear Doubleback is designed as a dog harness (for rock climbing). It is a robust harness that can also be used to secure your pet in the vehicle (by threading the seat belt through the top loop). The multi-strap system and padded vest ensure even weight distribution. However, this product has not been tested on dogs.
The Doubleback features aluminum buckles and adjustable, force-resistant straps. Part of the vest is padded for comfort. Even a small carrying case is included. This belt has leg loops, which is more convenient to use this belt as a belt. When not in use, these loops store neatly in a zippered pouch on the back.
We love Doubleback because it’s so easy to use. The straps are easy to adjust and fasten once installed. Although the harness system seems complex at first, once we got the hang of it, we quickly got it set up properly. The seat belt attachment was easy to detect and felt secure when fastened.
Dog Travel Pack Medium
Even at its loosest, this harness was snug around our test dog’s neck. Among the car harnesses we tested, the Ruffwear Doubleback seemed to be of average comfort for our test dog. Louise has a broad chest for her size, so other breeds may suit her better. It’s possible she needed a larger size than we tested.
When it comes to material quality, we think the Doubleback is top notch and one of the best dog harnesses available. Strong nylon straps and durable buckles are designed for extreme conditions and rough use.
Users review this dog harness mainly for its intended use: rock climbing and other outdoor dog adventures. Many use this for older dogs to lift them up and help them climb into tall vehicles. The straps are ideally placed to support the dog’s hips.
Many seem to be satisfied with the comfort that the Doubleback offers and are impressed with the rugged design. Reviewers also note that this harness is easy to adjust.
Small Fit, Car Safety Harness
Some dogs find loops on their hind legs very uncomfortable. This was also the case with our test dog. Another disadvantage of this harness is that although the straps are easy to adjust, it can be difficult to get the harness over the dog. You have to pull this harness over your dog’s head and paws like a t-shirt, which can be difficult for older dogs.
The Kurgo Tru-Fit is available in five sizes and is designed for dogs up to 75.0 lbs. Kurgo belts have been crash tested in a testing facility that tests child seat belt safety systems. Both static and dynamic crash tests were performed on this belt.
This dog harness has five adjustment points for an optimal fit. Although the buckles on this belt are not quick release, they are designed with metal hardware for durability and strength.
Kurgo Tru-fit is much easier to set up than EziDog or Sleepipod. However, our test dog found this harness less comfortable than the other two. Although she didn’t seem to have any pain and was able to sit comfortably in our test vehicle, Louise was noticeably less pleased with the fit of this harness. As mentioned, our test dog is broad-chested.
Pack Pet Dog Seat Belt
The materials don’t seem as durable as the other straps we’ve recommended, but they’re not flimsy. The durable nylon should be chew resistant for most dog breeds.
Although a few people mention that it takes time to get used to using the fastener, this dog harness is generally easy to use.
