Pet-friendly Hotel Reviews – Kimpton Kitalay Samui is the best hotel in Koh Samui, Thailand. From the moment you check in to the time you leave, you and your furry friends will be well taken care of. Upon entry, when people received welcome drinks, I received welcome ice cream!
When I got to my room, it was furnished with a very comfortable bed, a box of cookies, stuffed baby toys, and a very comfortable bed! I didn’t bring my own bed when we flew from Bangkok, so it’s great to have a comfortable bed to sleep on. We had a room with access to the pool so we also had a nice balcony to sit and look out over the pool.

The room was beautiful. It was really comfortable and everything should be in a 5* hotel. It even had a free-standing shower, which is unusual for Asian bathrooms.

The room was so expensive that you never left. However, if so, the hotel facilities were also very good. There was a large shared pool that you will see as soon as you enter the hotel. Then there were 2 other smaller pools for guests who had rooms with pool access.
There was a pool bar and several different restaurants to eat at. The first night we ate at a fish restaurant and it was delicious. It is definitely not expensive because it is a 5* hotel. We also enjoyed some cocktails by the pool in the afternoon which were also delicious.
They also have happy hour every night at 6pm which gives you unlimited free drinks and snacks. This was free! How wonderful that is. Unfortunately, we only found out on the last day! It included white and red wine and a specialty cocktail. The hotel manager and staff were there to answer any questions and everyone was very friendly.
The hotel manager has a beautiful and sweet dog named Emma. We don’t get along well because I have a small dog with a defect, so I wanted to show it to the boss.

The best amenity the hotel had for me was the private dog park. I’ve never seen one of the many hotels I’ve stayed at. It really shows that this hotel is totally friendly. What a great idea that has a huge impact on dog owners but is very easy to implement.
In fact, there was no pet policy. All dogs are welcome regardless of size. It is allowed in all areas except inside restaurants and tables and chairs, which is understandable. Best of all, there are no pet fees. You can argue that the hotel is very expensive, but for me, the fact that there are no additional costs is definitely a pro. Everyone pays the same amount whether they have a dog or not.
Kimpton Kitalay Samui is by far the best friendly hotel I have ever stayed at. It is true that it was also the most expensive. But you definitely get what you pay for. Dogs are a big part of the family here, and other pet-friendly hotels can certainly learn a lot from Kimpton. From free pets to the facilities they offer, they win. I really hope to stay at another Kimpton’s in the future.
If Kimpton doesn’t suit you, check out other pet-friendly hotels on Koh Samui. If not, let me know if you know of anyone else that I missed.

If any of my travel tips help you, please feel free to leave us a small donation that would be greatly appreciated.
On January 1st, 2018, my wife and I embarked on a 5-year, 50-year government road trip that has now been extended to 7 years (thanks to COVID, international travel, and loving enough places to stay for a while. long!) we did this all the time with my little dog Truffles. In case you’re wondering, it’s a silky snowman – a mix between a silky terrier and a poodle (that’s one of the most common questions we get).
We’ve spent all that time in hotels and Airbnbs, so having Truffles with us means we’re always looking for pet homes. This greatly reduces the number of hotels we can stay in, although there are a large number of establishments that accept pets.
Can you write a post about your experience traveling with pets in different hotel brands? Which chain has the best policies and lowest pet fees? Are there regular pet expenses of any kind? Are you looking for special brands because you are traveling with a pet? Thank you

So I wanted to write this post to answer all these questions and share some additional tips on pet travel. This will actually be a mini-series, with this post focusing on hotel pet policies. Future posts will include information about flying with pets, and a third will focus on pet-friendly activities and travel tips.
Something worth noting before continuing – all hotels allow service dogs with no pet fee. This post therefore focuses on policies regarding pets rather than service dogs.
I haven’t been able to find much reliable information about how pet-friendly each chain’s properties are, except for the Hilton. In June 2022, Hilton announced that most of its hotels in the United States and Canada will be pet-friendly, meaning that more than 4,600 hotels will allow you to bring your pet.
I would also secretly say that Hilton is the friendliest of all the big hotel chains. I spend a lot of time looking at lodging options in each area, and I’m always surprised when I search for friendly hotels on the Hilton website at how many properties are left. If Hilton has 50 hotels in town, there’s a good chance that a few of them don’t accept dogs.

So it’s hard to say. Again, considering the large number of eco-friendly properties available, Marriott would probably be second. So it will probably be IHG and then Hyatt. However, in terms of percentage, I found a greater proportion of Hyatt properties to be more pet friendly than IHG.
We stay at Wyndham and Choice properties less often, but overall I find Wyndham to be very pet friendly, while Choice allows pets on maybe 50% of their property. Again, this is anecdotal, as none of the brands have released the data as far as I can tell, and there is no impressive time-consuming model of data collection to support my anecdotal observations.
Among chains, there are different brands that are more friendly than others. Most types of extended stays are pet-friendly because the people there are likely to want someone to take care of their dogs and/or cats while they are away. Here is a list of brands where every one of their properties (maybe a few exceptions) is friendly:
For the most part, pet fees vary from property to property, so there aren’t many that are the same. There are a few chains and brands that never (or very rarely) charge pets:
The Orchard Farm
In the past, Aloft (Marriott) and La Quinta (Wyndham) were included in this list. But in recent years, both brands have begun to charge pets for an increasing number of their properties.
There are two main ways to take pets to hotels – staying or overnight. When hotels charge a stay fee, it means you pay the same price regardless of how many nights you stay. Based on the nightly rate, you pay for each night you stay.
Both methods have advantages and disadvantages. If you are staying at a hotel for a long time, the “per stay” fee will usually work to your advantage as it lowers the average nightly rate. “Per night” rates can often be more convenient when you’re only staying in a place for one or two nights.
. If you’re only staying one night, that’s a bargain and will probably almost double the price of a nightly room. However, if you stay for two weeks, it only comes out to $7.14 per night, which is very reasonable.

For example, some hotels charge a pet fee of $20 per night. That’s not bad if you’re only staying somewhere for one night, maybe a quick stop on a road trip. However, if the hotel charges this fee every night for two weeks, you’re looking at a total cost of $280 per pet – more than $100 over the stay in the previous example.
There may be some nuances within the “stay” and “per night” policies. For example, I found that most of the Hyatt Place properties are friendly. Those in it
